Welcome to Sisterly Advice! We are so happy to have you! A little about us – we are three of ten siblings! I know, that is unfathomable to some of you, but it is true. To get the usual questions out of the way: yes, we all have the same parents. No, we’re not Catholic, no, none of us are twins. Yes, we really did all fit into our parent’s house at one point. And last but not least: yes, our poor mother!
Growing up, our little family was made up of our parents, two brothers, and eight sisters (I say little, because my parents will have 20 grandchildren by the end of 2022!). With so many girls, we all became proficient at sharing, whether it was our clothes, our snacks, or our frustrations. We also have quite a large gap between the oldest and youngest sisters: just over 14 years! When our oldest sister got married in 2007, Abigail was only eight years old! In short, we always had someone growing up who understood what we were going through, who could offer a strong shoulder during the sad times, advice during the confusing times, and a tickle on the rear during family pictures (I’m looking at you, Christy).
And so this idea was born, this chance to share our qualified and unqualified wisdom with you. Our parents taught us to be generous with our money, our time, our thoughts, and our actions, and we are delighted to have this platform to offer our content for your enjoyment and use. We grew up in the Lutheran Church, and so our advice is always going to be offered through a Christian lens. Whether or not you are a Christian, you can be sure that everything we post is going to be appropriate for all of our readers. And if you want to have a conversation about Jesus, we would love to chat! You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Melanie is a big sister. She’s worked in corporate America for almost a decade. Her work after college has included work at a startup company and her entire working life has been in male dominated workplaces. Melanie is over ten years older than Lydia and Abigail. As the third of ten kids, she had a lot of leadership training before starting high school, let alone before becoming a director of a $4 B market cap company. Melanie’s most recent adventure has been to move from Colorado to Puerto Rico. She vividly remembers what it’s like to prepare to graduate college and begin working out of school. Together, these sisters lean on each other for sisterly advice.
Lydia is the second youngest sister. She got her Masters in music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2021. 2021 also offered a new addition in the form of baby Eleanor. Lydia , her husband Joshua, and Eleanor enjoy the warm weather and alligators in the South. Lydia loves to hike, read, and especially play the trumpet. She is looking forward to helping young women achieve their goals, and is so thankful to be doing it with her family!
Abigail is the littlest sister! She is a middle school teacher in California. Abigail and her husband Brennan got married in 2021 and moved to Danville, CA for Brennan’s vicarage (he’s going to be a pastor!). Through Sisterly Advice, she is able to look to her older sisters for guidance as she jumps into these new experiences. Being the youngest of ten, Abby has had to make a voice for herself and make it be heard. Together with Lydia and Melanie, Sisterly Advice is here to help you be heard.
